Do you got that B-roll?

If so, you may have little or no credibility. Take a look at this tongue-in-cheek video, and you’ll understand exactly what I mean. Enjoy!

  • Factory b-roll is the crack cocaine of car dealer advertising. I had a client who pushed and pushed to run a series of ads showing every car covered a the sale. "Just use factory footage," he told me. Might as well called it "Generic Motors." Lack of results broke the spell. I'm sending him this video. Thanks!
  • Genius!

I think we need to relabel that B.S. Roll. Yeah, that's the ticket!
    Not find, Tom.
  • A perfect Friday crack-up. :-) But oh-so-painfully true for so many commercials. Might as well flush your money down the drain if you do this. But a very funny satire!
  • Great post, Tom,

B-roll is to video what cheesy stock photos are to static images. If you think B-roll tanks your credibility, you need to also take a good long look at your site to see how you can replace stock photos (or even stock-looking photos) with authentic images.

  • It's ridiculous how many businesses use b-roll. It's also ridiculous how may businesses use the same style of a screaming announcer.

Why not be authentic? Be yourself and share what you (the business) has to offer? And please, one thought per commercial. Try not to jam five things in to a 60-second spot.

By the way, thanks for the laugh Tom.
